designing: medea (2011)
In 2011, I designed the lighting, and co-designed the set, for Medea at the Wickham Theatre. The performances were partially in the round, with the audience stood, caught between a marsh and the chorus's 'amphitheatre'. I designed the light to reflect the different attitudes the chorus has to Medea as she goes through the play: cold, warm and harsh. The use of natural materials in the set was so that they framed in contrast the unnatural act of killing Medea's children.
