city of london school for girls

From 2016 to 2017 I worked with the City of London School for Girls, one of the top-ranking girls' schools in the country. I advised them on their marketing strategy, the project to improve their alumni associated and their public events programme. I also oversaw a design overhaul on their printed materials and the school website.

I also ran an external fundraising drive for the school, ensuring that the school's annual fund hit its target, and looking to where improvements could be made with the alumni and in relation to the 2019 125th Anniversary.

improved event planning

I brought new ideas to their big annual events including streamlining their prize day programme, working with the music department to produce and promote a programme of recitals with London Festival Orchestra and the Barbican Arts Centre, investing in exhibition boards for large-scale student exhibitions, and redesigning their events and box office system.

Alongside the admissions department, I ran a new set of Open events for parents and prospective students. We switched the emphases in these events towards them being student-led, as the talent of the students is what sells the school. I also gave advise on new presentations for parents, new school signage, and clearer advertising of Open events.

I laid the foundational planning conversations for their 125th Anniversary year programme, which will include combined shows with other City Schools, services and events in St. Paul's Cathedral, and talks and concerts with notable alumni, the Barbican, Museum of London and LFO. In these conversations, I encouraged the school and City of London to look to fundraise £1.25m in the lead up to and during the anniversary year as a new high benchmark in bursary funding.

wholesale marketing redesign

music given a whole new brand

The music department wanted to be given an identity within the school. As we started broadening the partnerships that the school had with professional musicians across London including LFO, Guildhall and the Barbican, and as we started a new concert series open to the public, I created a single cohesive design for music, which you can see throughout their new handbook.

fundraising: upgrading the alumni

As a major aspect of fundraising in many public schools is through their Alumni network, I initiated an overhaul of their CRM system, and alumni database. I commissioned a new Raiser's Edge database system in the cloud, and rationalised all of the data the school had on previous students, givers and large donors.

I created a new communications database for CLOGA, and setup online working between the marketing office and the CLOGA officers. To encourage higher engagement with current students, I highlighted the benefits of the alumni association to students through a series of events for both past and current students, and incorporated Alumni news into school communications. This infrastructure would underpin the future fundraising and communications work that the Alumni will do with the school.

Working with partners in the City of London and CLOGA, I redesigned their crest (old on left, new on right) to celebrate new life being put into the association.
